It was all over facebook today about the racist wall post of Miss USA Candidate for Miss Earth Pageant Nicole Lynn or Nicole Kelley.
In her Facebook wall post it says:
“I hardly made it to Manila and we already attended a ridiculous tv show. So annoying!!! These people want to touch you and be with you all the time!! I can’t understand a word they say. I can’t wait to go back home. This country is so dirty and noisy. I’m scared to eat!!! What a mess. On a lighter note I don’t see any real competition. Will keep you updated my loves.”
It says that last Friday the Miss Earth candidates visited the local TV Show of Willie Revillame the “Wil Time Big Time”. Few hour later that facebook post in her wall was posted. (Check on the attached photo for the screen shot of the wall post of Miss USA.)
Racist Comment of Miss USA candidate of Miss Earth Pageant
A lot of people reacted irritably of the racist comment about the Philippines and the Filipino people. Majority said she should be sent home before the pageant night. But lately, Nicole recorded a video of herself and uploaded it on youtube explaining that her Facebook account was being hacked and she immediately deleted the racist post.

Some said that officials of the pageant have confirmed that she wasn’t even near a computer when the message was posted.
Do you really believe that her account was being hacked that time or she really did that racist comment?

It looks like her name is Nicole Kelley, not Nicole Lynn, so I dunno what’s up with that, but whatever.
What she said could be offensive to people in any country, in this case it is the Philippenes.
She is kind of young. If she’s never traveled outside the US before to a lower-income company, that is pretty much a natural reaction that alot of people would have, if they weren’t warned ahead of time what to expect. It’s very different there than in the US.
What she said was rude and it just seems like she was experiencing some culture shock, and didn’t think before she spoke.
But then she tried to cover up by saying here facebook was hacked…. whatever who cares.

- Judgement: This demonstrates than she is insane.
Final Judgement: This is not a racist, this is just an ignorant *****.

Ok, so it may not be a racist comment. Disrespectful maybe the right word for it. But still those are the words we least expected from a Miss Earth candidate. Let’s say it was her first time to travel overseas in a third world country like the Philippines, but at least she should respect the people who welcomed her wholeheartedly in their land. It may be a ridiculous TV Show, most people would agree on that but commenting on people’s behaviors about touching her and wanting to be with her all the time is a bit racist thing. If she was being warned about the people on the country she’s going to visit or at least IF SHE ONLY READ about the country first before flying her @ss here, she wouldn’t be surprised about those things. But we can’t do anything about it… perhaps she doesn’t like to read or too lazy to do her assignments.

Yes, maybe what she said was true. But considering she is in Miss Earth, shouldn’t she at least show some manners? What is Miss Earth all about? Most of what she said is true anyways. It’s just hard for onion skin fellowmen to admit the truth. Take a look around Manila and you will see trash everywhere and majority of the locals just dump their trash on the streets without care. And most don’t have manners too. On the other hand, it wasn’t very bright of her to post negative things about the country. She should have just kept it to herself. I don’t think her account was hacked, it was just a way for her to avoid critics thrown at her. In a way, this is an eye opener.

Her opinion on the Philippines is based on what she saw when she arrived. Opinionated, definitely. But said in a manner that will hurt.
What show did she go to? Is it really ridiculous compared to their shows? People are easily star-strucked in the Philippines. Don’t worry, that’s how they show their appreciation for you. It’s a cultural difference, so to speak.
Understanding the language of the Filipinos is not really a requirement, because Filipinos are one of the best in speaking English. Could she have tried talking to them in English? If you don’t know the language, of course you’d never understand.
The country is dirty, depending on which place you go. Noisy? Still depends on where you went. If it’s a busy business district, of course it’s noisy. If it’s a residential spot, I doubt it can be considered noisy. Scared to eat? Why so sensitive? Even street foods are edible haha. Just be sure to find a credible restaurant if you are scared of the common ones. Once again, cultural difference gave her a “culture shock”.
No real competition? That’s confidence bloated. It’s one thing to actually be confident, but being arrogant is a different thing.
Bottom line, what she said was her opinion. But, being a public figure, she should have thought it through before posting the said comment. After all, being a public figure (especially someone representing a country in an international event) is always paired with heavy responsibilities.

There’s no doubt that her comments were naive, insensitive, inappropriate, rude and in horrible bad taste.
However, as much as I would hate to admit it, I feel that some of what she observed is true about us Filipinos and our motherland.
Particularly, being “touchy-feely,” some cultures are averse to being touched and take the gesture as very offensive and disrespectful.
And, if we are going to be real honest in regards to the cleanliness of the country (and government *_^), there is definitely a good cause for concern (a gross understatement).
With this said, I just hope that…
a. She learns from this mishap and grows up to be a well-mannered and worldly individual.
b. And, I hope that we (Filipinos) learn to accept the painful truth about some of the negative things about our own people, culture and country and use these criticisms to change for the better.

Good “AM” Pinoys! (haha) To my fellow countrymen, have you watched foreign reality shows? Most of them (the people) are really straightforward. They also tend to react immediately when someone say something not so good about them (even if it’s true). So, I guess the label ‘onion-skinned’ is not for Filipinos alone. We all have feelings & it’s normal to react. Just remember not to generalize. We can express our side or what we feel w/o calling them the worst possible names we can think/heard of. It will not make us better than the other.
To Ms. Nicole Lynn, If you’d been attacked by a hacker, I’m sorry that you get all these bad comments from us. If you’re innocent, it will be easier for you to just ignore everything & move on.
But if not, learn to keep certain things to yourself or suffer consequences. “A smart person knows what to say, a wise person knows whether or not to say it.”

I am a Filipino and proud of it. If she’s REALLY hacked, I feel sorry for her because her reputation is sort of degraded. Its best to show everyone who she really is to clear things out.
However, if she REALLY MEANT IT? We Filipinos should strive hard for the betterment of our country. Its not what people say makes us who we are its what we do when people say something. You can’t please everyone in this world, every single person came from a different place, families and environment.
I have some of American friends and clients, they find Filipinos great people with their own IMPERFECTIONS. There’s nothing to get disappointed on what she said(if she really said it). That’s normal.

What a sore racist. I agree that some Filipinos were crazy on those white skinned narcissists but they’re far more POLITE AND RESPECTFUL.

Ironic, eh? I am a “half-breed”: Born and raised in the States by a Filipina mother and Caucasian father. I prefer to side with the values and morals from my mother, because frankly, Filipinos have better manners and are better people who have global/universal skills. I am proud of the fact that Filipinos/Filipinas can assimilate wherever they go in the world. They adapt, adopt and improve. They’re resilient, ambitious, talented and intelligent.
Why am I saying all of these things? My opinion and personal experiences of dealing with people like Ms. Kelley is that she doesn’t know any better on how to deal with people of multicultural backgrounds. She might be one of those oxymoronic charming Southern hospitality belles that never left her doorstep and thought, “Well hey y’all. This would be a great opportunity for me to see the world and learn about a new culture.” Ironic that despite her education and ‘humanitarian assistance’ that she would put down an entire culture. Dirty places are international, not just in the Philippines, but also in America. Ignorant people are the dregs of humanity. Perhaps maybe with the backlashes from everyone, she might have learned her lesson…or not. You cannot change people who are narrow-minded and biased. But you can rise above the criticism and show them the goodness of who we are as Filipinos. That is the best that we can at least hope for.
