Philippine Independence Day – a Liberty?
Yesterday is the Philippine Independence Day and I am still a bit busy at work. But still managed to get out the house and went to Divisoria area to check out what are the activities for the Independence celebration. Last night government offices and departments held a Filipino Songs and Dances presentation in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day. There at the stage of Plaza Divisoria their talents of singing and dancing has been showcased and I can feel the patriotism that time while listening to the folkloric songs and watching them dancing.
Though the Philippines has been independent for more than a hundred years now (111 years to be exact) but still cannot cry out that we are really free. I mean, yes the Philippines is a sovereign country, but the Filipino people are not free from corruptions, scams, dishonesty, fraud and other dreadful things happening on our leaders nowadays in the country.
I shed tears everytime I watch this video:
LUPANG HINIRANG: PHILIPPINE NATIONAL ANTHEM
But then again, it is a tear of hopelessness and misery about our beloved country. It seems that our leaders are just playing around and let us dance to their own tune of music. Do you think what is happening now in the governance of the current administration is liberty of the Filipino people? I don’t think so, with all those scams coming out, do we think those leaders can be trusted in any way?
About the Con-Ass issue today, why does it only being approved just now that their leadership terms is almost ended? Why not at the start of their terms they approve this law so that we can get change right there. Why do they have to make things complicated now? Does that mean they still want to continue their terms and they will pass the Con-Ass resolution in order to prolong their corruptions and dishonesty to the people?
On the other hand… do we really need to change the constitution for a better Philippines or do we really need to change all our current leaders to achieve liberty? Those are questions in my mind that need some answers.

Filipinos love to be free to the extent of free all you can. Free to stop on the road at any moment without considering the traffic it can create, Free to throw away garbage anywhere, Free to get money from the government for those in position, Free to vote to whoever give them money…Filipinos love so much freedom that in the end every Filipino will suffer all because of our own greed and power and until now we are still longing for that true freedom that other nations have that we haven’t feel in the 111 years of the so called Philippine independence.
The fact that people can still complain and have that complaint disseminated nationwide in various platforms like this one is evidence of democracy in action. Holding rallies is at the bottom of the democratic barrel because it is a manifestation of a sector or sectors’ dissatisfaction only. We want our democracy to be functional, right? So placing the holding of rallies at the top 5 of our list that proves democracy is working is tantamount to saying that the essence of parenting is having our children treat us like kids. We can’t live lives fixated on rallies and cynicism if we want a unified and strong Philippines. Successful people (not just financially) didn’t reach their state of success by contradicting their goals.
And to answer why the assembly for constitutional amendment only managed to convene now is because the civil society and other questionable advocacy groups tried to give bad press and prevent it from happening earlier. Most of the advocacy groups that always hold rallies are funded by questionable sources, some of which are communist-affiliated ones.
i think 111 years
