The recently concluded Las Vegas International Chess Festival has been a good upshot for the 6-year-old Filipino Stephen Rome Pangilinan of Milo Checkmate Philippines. He defeated other competitors in the Susan Polgar under eight-year-old division and emerged as an over-all champion on the said division. He said that he won “Kasi po ginamit ko yung pamatay kong opening.” Wow, when I was young, I played chess but it always gave me headache everytime I played it. So, with Stephen, I should say that he is truly a genius, and I also think that most chess top players are a true mastermind. Pangilinan can already battle against opponents more than twice his age.
Though, the prize for the said competition is not that big enough to become millionaire but the honor he gave to the country Philippines is more than enough to consider it a fortune of a lifetime. Many people are hoping and looking forward for Stephen to become a grandmaster at the younger age just like Wesley So.

Pen-pen is trully an amazing child! He’s just a typical kid the last time i met him. His dad Vhong has been his mentor to every chess piece moves he make. I can still remember when he got his finger wounded on a bicycle chain (ouch!!), well, whom would have thought that little would have made him a TRUE FILIPINO PRIDE.
Good luck to your Melbourne challenge.
GRABE! ang galing ni stephen! sya din ung champion nung csjodemprisa 09!!
