MV Princess of the Stars of Sulpicio Lines Shipping, Sank in the Philippines

The ill-fated MV Princess of the Stars that capsized off the coast of Sibuyan Island in Romblon last Saturday, is still at the shore and the dead bodies weren’t found yet because of the bad weather condition in the area. But it is good to know that the survivor counts is now climing to 76, let’s just hope and pray that there are more survivors somewhere because as of the moment there are only 5 dead bodies found by the Coast Guard of the Philippines. But earlier after the accident it has been feared that around 700 were predicted dead because of no signs of survivors earlier, but I am glad there are climbing numbers of survivors were found at the nearby islands of the wreckage.

I just can’t understand why did this happened and why the Sulpicio Lines management still let the ship sail along the rough seas amid a fury typhoon risking hundreds of lives. Anyway, the damage has been done and there’s nothing we can do to bring back the lives of the people who died. Prayer is one thing we can offer for them. But this should be a lesson to all the Shipping lines company. Doing business is good but when it cost lives that’s another story. I just hope that more survivors will be found as the search and rescue operation is still going on.

Here’s a message from a youtube member who uploaded his voyage with the MV Princess of the Star way back his journey here in the Philippines.

A passenger ship MV Princess of the Stars has sunk off in the waters of Romblon, Philippines on Saturday. Gov’t officials said they saw Sulpicio Lines’ Princess of the Stars capsized. The ship may have approximately 700 passengers and crews.

It’s traveling in the rough seas amid a fury typhoon when the engine failed. Hundreds are feared dead. The typhoon has killed at least 141 people and 255 people are missing, most of them fishermen. The massive ferry which was built to hold about 2,000 people, flipped over about a mile off the shore of Sibuyan Island as typhoon Fengshen pummeled the Philippines.

While it is a tragic accident in its entirety, it could have been avoided. We all know that the Philippines is composed of 7,107 islands and traveling by boat is the most common means of transportation. But why did they permit the boat to sail off risking the lives of 700 people? Is there no more such thing as postponement or cancellation of the travel? What’s the role of PAGASA and the Coast Guard. Are they all busy practicing the papaya dance for YouTube upload? How old are the vessel and inter-islands boats? I think the issue is hopeless and the only thing that we can do is pray.

Let’s all pray for the deceased, their surviving families and hope for the betterment of the situation. Here’s a short prayer to our Blessed Mother.

We turn to you for protection, Holy Mother of God. Listen to our prayers and help us in our needs. Save us from every danger, glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

The songs and the pics are not quite relevant..it’s just my general message of sustainable growth.

ABS-CBN News Team Finally Freed From Kidnapping

Finally, the Kidnapping ordeal of Ces Drilon, Jimmy Encarnacion, Angelo Valderama and Professor Octavio Dinampo is now over and they are all being freed by the Abu sayaff rebels. But one thing I have in mind after this whole scenario, the incident would have been not happened if the Gloria administration didn’t spoiled the rebels, and continued the all out war against the Abusayaff and MILF rebels that President Estrada started on his term, and focus on the improvement of Mindanao.

I don’t really think that war is the only answer to this problem, I understand why there are rebels in the country, specially in Mindanao, because I am from Mindanao and I can feel the unfairness that this Government been doing to Mindanao. If you only grew up or lived here for a long time, you will understand why we felt unfair and unjust. Though I am living in a peaceful and booming city of Cagayan de Oro but still I can feel that we are being tagged as the “Third Class Citizen” of this country. Anyway, I express strong disapproval of the kidnapping acts of the Abu Sayaff to ABS-CBN News team and Professor Octavio Dinampo, but I would want to let the government know that the people here in Mindanao were in the low morale everytime we hear political problems and national problems that only focuses in Metro Manila area. Because the real problem that they have to focus are here, and to the other far places in the Philippines that the Government are fail to see.

I am happy that the ABS-CBN television news icon Ces Drilon and her team are now free from the kidnappers. We proved to them that kidnapping is not the solution of the problem, and I hope that the government will look at the problem here in Mindanao and give solutions to the poverty problem here, so that the people will not easily get brainwashed of how pathetic and greedy the government we have right now, which is partly right.

So, I hope that this will be the last kidnapping incident we have here and people in Mindanao will be treated as the same class of the people in other parts of the country.

Dog

Got this story from a comment on my blog and it made me smile this morning when I read it… I know it’s not that funny but I like this story…

One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: “Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. ”
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with ten children - he’s trying to catch up on his sleep.”

I cried from laughter

YouTube surgery video investigated

MANILA, Philippines - A video posted on YouTube showing Philippine doctors laughing while removing an object from a patient may lead to charges against the surgeons and cost them their medical licenses, officials said Wednesday.

The unauthorized nearly 3-minute video of a noisy operating room shows doctors and nurses laughing, giggling and cheering.

At one point, a hand appears with a cell phone camera taking a close-up picture of the surgery.

As a doctor gingerly pulls out the 6-inch long canister from the male patient’s rectum, someone shouts, “Baby out!” amid loud cheers.

The doctor then removes the canister cap and sprays the contents toward the crowd of nurses and doctors viewing the procedure.

It remains unclear who shot the video and who posted it on YouTube, but the person who posted it removed it from the Web site Wednesday.

The video has angered the unidentified patient who plans to press charges, his lawyer Guiller Ceniza said Wednesday.

The government-run Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in the central city of Cebu, where the surgery took place, is conducting an investigation, a spokesman said Wednesday.

Dr. Emmanuel Gines said more than 10 people were involved — including staff and medical and nursing students from a nearby operating room.

He said the hospital takes videos of surgeries of peculiar cases, but only with the consent of the patient.

Dr. Jose Sabili, president of the Philippine Medical Association, told The Associated Press on Wednesday the group will conduct an investigation if a formal complaint is filed and doctors found violating medical ethics could be suspended or expelled from the association, which would result in the suspension or termination of their state health insurance accreditation.

The results of the investigation could also be used by the Professional Regulations Commission to suspend or revoke their licenses, Sabili said.

“I believe what they did was very blatant,” he said.

Health Undersecretary Alexander Padilla said the Health Department will conduct a separate investigation.

The 39-year-old patient received surgery on Jan. 3, three days after a New Year’s drinking spree and a “one-night stand” with a male partner, Ceniza, the lawyer, told the AP.

He said his client was too drunk to remember how the body spray canister ended up in his body.

Ceniza said the man was determined to file charges but will wait for the results of the hospital’s investigation, expected later in the week.

If this is what doctors do in the Philippines (which I think not), then I would suggest patients not to be operated with a Filipino doctor or better yet if they can afford to seek medical treatment outside the Philippines then please do. This is a shame to all Filipino Doctors and the PMA should make a course of action for this to clean up this mess, because I believe not all Filipino Doctors are like this. This kind of attitude is so cold, inhuman and very unethical according to one concern reader. The Doctors and Nurses who are involved with this mess are worth to lost their medical licenses.

Last year the Filipino community around the world specially the Filipino medical communities was so damn angry about the Desperate Housewives racial slur towards Filipino doctors and here’s the proof why the slurs happened… They only do their job a funny experience.

I am a Filipino and I am proud to be a Filipino but this is something I am ashamed of being a Filipino. I hope this issue can be corrected and justice to the victim will be given.

Donald Trump is Bored and Beats Rosie O’Donnell again

Donald Trump once again attacked Rosie O’Donnell and call her “a very abusive person”.

Here’s From Access Hollywood

“Well I think Rosie is a very abusive person,” he told Access Hollywood on the Miss USA pageant red carpet. “She’s a slob and I’m not surprised to see it.” Rosie was pictured in the accompanying article to the headline, in an apparent argument with the tall pre-teen and in one photograph she is seen grabbing his left arm. “I would imagine that being her son is not fun. I know Rosie very well… She’s a very bad person,” Trump added.

Yesterday, Rosie herself lashed out at the tabloid story with the help of her wife, Kelli Carpenter. “Kelli, come say ‘Hi’ to the bloggers. Honey, come say hi! Are you scared of my abusive parenting ways honey?” Rosie asked, referring to the story. “Um, no,” Kelli responded to Rosie’s question. “I would assume that any mother [out] there that has a 12 or 13-year-old boy has grabbed him by the arm.”

Marilyn Monroe’s Jerjer Tape is worth $1.5 million

A silent black and white tape of Marilyn Monroe engaging in “jerjer” with an unknown man has sold for $1.5 million to a NY businessman, according to a report in the NY Post. It’s said to be 15 minutes long and is obviously of Marilyn. She never looks at the camera but the man’s head is not visible, which may suggest that he planted the camera and she didn’t know it was there.

The movie was shot on 15mm film sometime in the 1950s and it first attracted the interest of the FBI in the mid 60s. The FBI under J. Edgar Hoover spent “two weeks futilely trying to prove that Monroe’s partner was either John F. Kennedy or Robert F. Kennedy, according to declassified agency documents and interviews.”

A NY memorabilia dealer, Keya Morgan, bought the only known copy of the film from the son of the informant who gave it to the FBI over 40 years ago. Morgan is now $1.5 million richer after selling it. Supposedly the guy who bought it doesn’t have any plans to sell or release it to the public:

The feds eventually confiscated the original footage - but not before the informant made a copy of it, which is what was just sold by his son, Morgan said.

There are heavily redacted, declassified FBI documents talking about a “French-type” film.

They state the informant “exhibited [to agents] a motion picture which depicted deceased actress Marilyn Monroe committing a perverted act upon a unknown male,” Morgan said.

The informant was with at least one mobster at the time, the documents state.

According to the documents, “Former baseball star Joseph DiMaggio in the past had offered [the informant] $25,000 for this film, it being the only one in existence, but he refused the offer.

“Source advised that [redacted name of the mole] informed them that he had obtained this film prior to the time Marilyn Monroe had achieved stardom.”

Morgan said he got the deceased informant’s name from the former FBI agent who tipped him off to the flick - and was floored after he found the mole’s son in Washington, DC, and the man retrieved a film canister from a safe-deposit box and spooled it up.

“You see instantly that it’s Marilyn Monroe - she has the famous mole,” Morgan said.

“She’s smiling, she’s very charming, she’s very radiant, but she’s known for being radiant,” he said. “She moves away, and then it [the footage] stops.”

Last month, he brokered its sale, leading the informant’s son to a wealthy New York businessman who wants to keep this unseemly part of Monroe’s past buried.

“He said he’s just going to lock it up,” Morgan said.

“He said, ‘I’m not going to make a Paris Hilton out of her. I’m not going to sell it, out of respect.’ “

[From The NY Post]

This brings up all sorts of questions about who the man was in the film and who actually bought it - like whether it’s just some super rich guy who wanted it for his collection or if he has some connection to Marilyn or the man she was filmed with. Either way, we’ll probably never see it and that’s a good thing. She had enough image problems without a s3x tape coming out 45 years after her death.

Marilyn is shown below with her second husband of just 10 months in 1954, Joe DiMaggio. Given the fact that DiMaggio offered so much money for the tape and that he was married to her around the time it was shot, it was possibly him in the film.

Pope Benedict XVI bobblehead pope doll pull out in Youtube

Pope Benedict XVI bobblehead pope doll

WASHINGTON - A promotional video starring a bobblehead pope doll has been pulled from YouTube after complaints from the Archdiocese of Washington.

Capital transport bosses scrapped the video, which aimed to encourage people to ride the Metro to Nationals Park where is saying Mass next week.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Gibbs said the video, which showed the bobblehead riding a Metro train, made many people uncomfortable. The Metro said no offense was intended.

Meanwhile, experts said the pope will do his best to dodge presidential politics when his trips to Washington and New York begins on Wednesday.

“The pope will probably speak in broad enough and general enough terms that anybody who is determined to read endorsement of his or her political position will find an endorsement there,” said Russell Shaw, a former spokesman for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The Vatican confirmed that Benedict will address the child sex abuse scandal that rocked the Roman Catholic Church in Boston in 2000, although critics said he should give the address in the Hub.

I was looking for the video but can’t find it… all I can see in youtube are imitations of the famous Bobblehead doll. But nothing will escape in the online world because I can still find it in some websites and blogs…

An amazing elephant story

This is a must read, you’ll love it!

An amazing elephant story…

Sometimes I like these heartwarming stories, but this one is truly interesting.

In 1986, Dan Harrison was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University.

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Dan approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant’s foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Dan worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.

Dan stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Dan never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later, Dan was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenage son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Dan and his son Dan Jr. were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Dan, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Dan couldn’t help wondering if this was the same elephant. Dan summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Dan’s legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly .

Probably wasn’t the same elephant.

LOL! if you read this, probably you have read the entire story… actually I was owned when I received this message through my E-mail and was laughing after reading it. So, I guess posting it here for you to maybe smile, laugh, sigh or whatever your reaction is… Just having a good time here.

Cheers!

TMS at Entrepreneur Magazine March 2008

TMS at Entrepreneur Magazine March 2008

Initially offering training services to a few clients to augment his earnings from a day job, this entrepreneur now heads a group that services big companies [By Marie Anne Fajardo]

Using his broad five-years experience in the business process outsourcing industry, Lawrence Sol Cruz set up his own training firm,

Training Management Solutions (TMS), in late 2004. He did so earn extra in-come on top of what he was then earning in his day job. Sol Cruz, now 28 began as a one-man team, setting up a laptop, printer, and fax machine at home. His initial capital of about 55,000 went into the purchase of his workstation equipment and of technical books on networking basics, database books on networking basics, database program, and marketing tools. He then availed of the service of his peers in the BPO industry as consultants.

“At the start, I didn’t find necessary to invest in an office because we normally would make our pitch to clients in their offices,” he recalls. “We even had to adjust to traditional companies by communicating with them through fax because not all of them were using e-mail at the time.”

Since then, TMS has been engaged in developing customized training and organizational development (OD) programs for client companies and in evaluating the quantifiable performance of their teams as a result of the training that they received. The principal services of TMS include training management, organizational development, project management, executive coaching, ang field market research.

“We also hold quarterly public courses that cover leadership development, communication, sales impact, customer service, branding, and marketing,” he adds.

As of last September, TMS had a total 19 industry training professionals in its staff. Six of them were training supervisors dedicated to specific corporate clients that included Bates 141/141 Worldwide, Nestle Food Services, Concept Asia, Ogilvy Action, British American Tabacco (Dunhill Senses).

Solc Cruz got started in the business when an advertising agency hired him to do a campaign for Nestle Welleness Campaign. “I was asked to do school visits in Metro Manila and coordinate with key officials to introduce and encourage wellness programs.” he recalls. His work impressed the client, Jovanny G. Caminade, channel business development group head for Nestle Philippines Inc., who made the following comment: “TMS was the first third-party service provider that ever took extra pains to gain a deeper understanding of us and of our business as its client.”

Relates Sol Cruz: As I was doing work for Nestle, more projects came and I had to start looking for team members to help me with the training load. Although I had very little time to spare for other projects, I asked my previous co-workers in the training profession to handle them with me on a per project basis.”

Tie-up with such advertising agencies as Momentum and Concept Asia followed. “They also realized the value of training for their clients, ”Sol Cruz says.” Companies want to make sure tha their people are well trained. They value goals, and because of this, they expand their training departments. TMS then checks their performance and employs best practices and marketing program to help them increase sales. For British American Tabacco, for instance, we designed a program to train their brand ambassadors for their ‘Dunhill Senses’ product launch. We also trained their ‘Consumer Push Girls’ for their promotional bar tours.”

Sol Cruz says that the most challenging part was in getting the business started, particularly the administrative tasks of getting business permits for TMS and setting the bookkeeping and accounting system. He says he dealt with those challenges by doing the necessary re search, hiring people who can focus on those processes.”

He says he recovered his initial investment in TMS in six months and made P2.5 million in revenue in 2006. This enabled him to move from his home office to a new office in Mandaluyong City and to open a branch in Cebu City last August. He says that depending on the increase in client demand, TMS may need to move to a bigger location.

Sol Cruz says that TMS, which currently use six computer stations with wireless LAN connections, can carry out its business on a mobile basis. “We want to revolutionize how transact can be made,” he says. “Although doing online is something the country isn’t ready for yet, technology is something we value at TMS, and we want to encourage our clients to adapt to it as well.”

He sees no direct competitor to TMS yet and consider other training companies as allies rather than competitors. He explains: “We welcome competition. Other training companies actually help and even encourage us since they also focus on training. In any case, TMS is expanding into added service and out goal is to remain an efficient service provider.”

TMS uses both training and analysis in developing programs. Sol Cruz explains: “Our training programs are customized to out clients. No two programs are alike. Sometimes training isn’t always the solution. You need to evaluate the company based on what the company needs.”

Training programs may last from one day to three months, depending on the needs of particular client. TMS assigns three to five consultants to a client company and they brainstorm together before an analysis and a proposed program are presented to the company.

In the case of Motorola, Sol Cruz says, TMS designed and ran the company’s sales training.

“We are currently handling their promoter program, and managing their entire “Sales Ambassador Sales Force’ team, including supervisors who deal with customers purchasing Motorola phones,” he says.

Sol Cruz is looking at the feasibility of opening a branch office in Davao City. This, he says, will be after TMS branches out to Vietnam by early or mid-2008. “We have the support of a training company based there and we already have existing clients there as well,” he says. “In this business, we try to make sure that our service performance level for each of our clients doesn’t suffer.”

He is looking also into the prospects of entering other Asian markets, such as Singapore and Malaysia, and he hopes to soon launch the TMS website, www.tmsmanila.com, and open public training courses in Cebu.

“Work has been rewarding in the sense that we in TMS don’t feel stressed,” Sol Cruz says. “It has been a fun experience. There’s a family atmosphere at TMS and our employees work best when they feel at home. And as for me as an entrepreneur, the rewards are measured not just by income. It’s also about what you learn and the opportunity to learn with our clients.”

On Blog Vacation at Camiguin Island

Camiguin, White Island

Camiguin - White Island

White Island, Camiguin

At the White Island Beach / White Sand bar in Camiguin Island… I am here in Camiguin for the Lenten season. One good thing in Camiguin nowadays is that there are Resorts and Restaurants that offers free Wi-fi connection to the customers… I think I can stay here for a longer time as long as there is Internet Connection and have a vacation while working. Hmmm… that’s something we look forward to, isn’t it?

Dolphin Rescues Stranded Whales

A dolphin has come to the rescue of two whales which had become stranded on a beach in New Zealand.

Conservation officer Malcolm Smith and volunteers had tried in vain for an hour and a half to get the whales to sea.

The pygmy sperm whales had repeatedly beached, and both they and the humans were tired and set to give up, reports the BBC.

But then the dolphin appeared, communicated with the whales, and led them to safety.

The bottlenose dolphin, called Moko by local residents, is well known for playing with swimmers off Mahia beach on the east coast of the North Island.

Mr Smith said: “I don’t speak whale and I don’t speak dolphin but there was obviously something that went on because the two whales changed their attitude from being quite distressed to following the dolphin quite willingly and directly along the beach and straight out to sea.”

The whales had not been seen since, but the dolphin had returned to its usual practice of playing with swimmers in the bay.

The Beauty Of Sadness

Bless this strategic positioning; I could see her walk by. She is a beautiful girl. She works in the same building and is a friend of mine. She drops by my workstation once or twice a week for a quick chat. She has a beautiful smile. But today she seemed sad. In the couple of seconds that I noticed her walk by that room I could see she was in deep contemplation. There were definite traces of sadness in her eyes. And yet she seemed more beautiful than ever.

I’ve often heard about there being a certain beauty in melancholy. Today I have seen it myself. The irony of those two simple seconds isn’t lost on me. Just a glimpse of her sadness has filled me with bliss for a much longer time.

I wish I was better with my words so that the world can better understand what I felt.

I wish I was a painter so as to at least make an attempt at capturing this on sketch.

But mostly……I wish I could see that sad yet divine face of hers once again.

Obama’s Very Close With Racist Preacher Rev.Wright

Unfortunately for the truth, when the questions were finally put to him on March 14th, Obama played dumb saying, “I wasn’t in church during the time that these statement were made. I did not hear such incendiary language myself, personally.

So, we see that Obama obviously had a close, long-term relationship with Wright not a casual one where Obama might have missed the Reverend’s long-standing agenda.
It is also interesting that Obama’s rhetoric was so steeped in evangelical Christian rhetoric. Isn’t a “fanatic” Christianity one of the charges so often leveled by the left against president Bush?

And remember, Bush just went to make a single speech at Bob Jones University and the media slammed him for months afterward. Yet, Barack has had an intimate, 20-year relationship with Wright who has vehemently called for God to damn America and the media yawns at the news.

Melting glaciers start countdown to climate chaos

From 1850 to 1970, the team estimates net losses averaged about 30cm a year; between 1970 to 2000 they rose to 60-90cm a year; and since 2000 the average has been more than one metre a year. Last year the total net loss was the biggest ever, 1.3m, and only one glacier became larger. Worldwide, the vast majority of the planet’s 160,000 glaciers are receding, ‘at least’ as much as this, says Haeberli, probably more - a claim supported by evidence from around the world.
freshwater supplies are also threatened by evaporation in warmer temperatures, pollution and growing demand from a rising and more affluent population. And - like glaciers - snow and thus snowmelt is also declining in the same areas.
